The National Restaurant Association (NRA) named Blue Bonnet Cafe winner of its Small Business Restaurant Neighbor Award for the state of Texas. The cafe was chosen for its community service and involvement in the bi-annual Marble Falls Area EMS Fish Fry.
Each year the NRA honors restaurants for outstanding community service. Three winners are chosen in each state based on business size. The national winners are chosen from the state winners.
"The Blue Bonnet is thrilled to receive this award," said owner John Kemper. "Giving back to the community, one that is so good to us, is something Belinda and I feel strongly about. Marble Falls Area EMS makes this region a better place to live through its services, and we are pleased to contribute to its success."
The bi-annual Marble Falls Area EMS Fish Fry started in 1989 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in March 2009. Blue Bonnet Cafe donates all food and labor for the event. Money raised at the fundraiser pays for all EMS annual training and other resources.
